FIDA-Kenya in collaboration with the German Federal Cooperation, Zivik Funding Program, and other partners on 24th May 2023 launched a program aimed at mentoring current women elected into office in Kenya to participate fully in decision-making. The initiative will also ensure that women leaders have the capacity to promote their common agenda by influencing the implementation of laws affecting women. The mentorship is also aimed at realizing the unity of the elected women irrespective of their political affiliation towards ensuring the gains for women in Kenya are consolidated and safeguarded.
The initial 2-day introductory forum was held in Kisumu on the 24th and 25th of May 26 with Women Members of the County Assembly from Nakuru and Homa Bay Counties participating.
Further, the 9-month Women’s #InclusiveGovernance #Accountability #Performance & #Participation program will also support current women in political spaces to be vocal & participate fully where decisions are being made as well as discuss different ways of promoting their agenda by influencing laws affecting them to be implemented at their respective Counties. The project will also be implemented in Machakos County targeting Machakos County Women Members of the County Assembly.
Other partners supporting the program include Uraia Trust and USAID Kenya through the strengthening electoral accountability and inclusivity program.
The mentorship program was launched by the Vice Chairperson Ms. Christine Kungu who reminded participants of FIDA-Kenya’s continued support to women in the political space to be vocal and participate fully where decisions are being made; influence laws affecting them; discuss shortcomings & challenges facing them in decision-making.
