STATEMENT: Statement in Solidarity with the Young Girls and Women from Alliance Girls High School over the Alleged Sexual Misconduct by Mr. Peter Ayiro

Nairobi, 8th July 2025 — The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) is appalled by the shocking revelations published by Africa Uncensored’s Deep Dive newsletter, exposing serious allegations of sexual abuse and misconduct by Peter Ayiro, a teacher and Christian Union Patron at Alliance Girls High School.

We stand in solidarity with the brave young women and girls who have come forward to share their harrowing survivor experiences. Their courage in speaking out has shed light on what appears to be years of unchecked abuse, misconduct, and institutional neglect. These voices must not be ignored; they demand and deserve justice.

FIDA-Kenya strongly condemns all forms of sexual abuse, particularly when committed by individuals entrusted with the care and well-being of children. That such behaviour could be tolerated within one of Kenya’s leading institutions for girls is unacceptable and deeply disturbing. We applaud the survivors for breaking their silence and challenging a culture of impunity within the school that has, for too long, threatened the safety and dignity of students at Alliance Girls High School.

The Constitution of Kenya is clear that every young girl and child accessing their right to education must be protected from existing and potential threats and be assured of a safe, nurturing environment, free from violence, exploitation, and harm. Schools, as spaces of learning and growth, must be held to the highest standards when it comes to protecting the best interests of the child.

In line with our mandate to protect and promote the rights of women, girls, and children, FIDA-Kenya is providing legal and psychosocial support to the affected students, ensuring they can access justice and initiate the healing process. We also encourage other survivors, both from Alliance Girls High School and other institutions, to come forward and share their stories.

We now demand the following:-

  • 1. The Board of Management of Alliance Girls High School acts swiftly and transparently to investigate these serious allegations against Mr. Peter Ayiro and take immediate action to protect the students and ensure accountability.
  • 2. The Ministry of Education holds the school accountable for its failure to safeguard students from harm and initiates disciplinary and legal action against those responsible for enabling this abuse.
  • 3. The Ministry also issues a directive requiring all schools—public and private—to adopt clear policies on gender-based violence and harassment (GBVH), including mandatory annual training and assessments for all teachers on preventing and responding to sexual and gender-based violence. The Ministry must also implement institutional mechanisms for students to report abuse without fear of retaliation. Finally, the Ministry must provide clear and enforceable measures to ensure the safety and dignity of all learners.

FIDA-Kenya remains committed to a survivor-centred approach that recognises the unique needs and experiences of each girl affected. We urge any survivor from Alliance Girls—or any other institution—to reach out for support via our toll-free line at 0800 720 501 or email us at info@fidakenya.org. Justice cannot wait and protection cannot be optional. Our girls deserve better—and we will not relent until their voices are heard and their rights are upheld.
