Comms TeamThis edition of the AWESOME newsletter spotlights FIDA-Kenya’s relentless efforts to champion gender equality, combat gender-based violence (GBV), and strengthen women’s leadership in Kenya and beyond. A major highlight was the WROs National Conference, which brought together women leaders and Women’s Rights Organizations from the 47 counties. The conference resulted in actionable legal and policy proposals to boost women’s political representation ahead of the 2027 elections.
FIDA-Kenya also promoted legal and electoral reforms by partnering with the Law Society of Kenya, submitting gender-responsive recommendations to the Senate, and leading the review of civil society electoral monitoring frameworks for Special Interest Groups (SIGs). Additionally, the organization connected peace, climate justice, and gender at the Africa Peace and Environment Summit and through the launch of the Greening the Judiciary Policy.
Despite progress, FIDA-Kenya acknowledges ongoing challenges, such as cultural barriers, economic hardship, and political resistance. The path forward requires sustained advocacy, solidarity, and investment in women’s empowerment to ensure a just, inclusive, and equitable society. FIDA-Kenya thanks Womankind Worldwide, whose funding has enabled the work published in this newsletter.
