MEDIA STATEMENT: FIDA-Kenya condemns the murder of Ms. Victoria Mumbua Muloki

Nairobi, 3 rd October 2024 – The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya), is deeply disturbed by the brutal murder of Victoria Mumbua Muloki, a taxi driver from Mombasa County whose body was discovered in a thicket near Mai Mahiu after being missing since 25th September 2024. Her vehicle was found in Nakuru being driven by the main suspect, Edwin Ng’etich. We send our condolences to her family and loved ones.

Regrettably, this senseless and heinous killing is not an isolated incident, but rather a part of a disturbing trend of femicide cases in Kenya that remain unresolved. The unchecked violence against women is a pressing issue as many families are left without answers or justice. This continuous disregard for women’s safety is deeply frustrating and unacceptable.

FIDA-Kenya strongly condemns this act of violence and demands immediate action from law enforcement to ensure full investigation and prosecution of the perpetrator(s). The government must address the systemic failures that have allowed femicide to persist with impunity. FIDA-Kenya believes that it is not enough to address individual cases; we need systemic change to prevent future incidents. In addition, we call on the Kenyan public to take proactive measures and protect women against all forms of violence and oppression. We urge the government to prioritize resolving these cases and taking concrete measures to stop the rampant violence against women.

FIDA-Kenya is unwavering in our commitment to seeking justice for all victims of femicide and ensuring that these crimes do not go unpunished. It is unacceptable that such heinous acts of violence against women persist. Finally, we stand in solidarity with all those affected by these senseless acts and remain hopeful of a meaningful change to prevent further tragedies.

Christine Kungu
FIDA-Kenya Chairperson.
