As members of FIDA-Kenya, we mourn with the family of the late Honourable Mr. Justice Joseph Louis Onguto who was an exemplary judge and one who brought true meaning to the title Honourable through his work.
The Judge stayed true to the law and was instrumental in the actualization of constitutional gains for women in Kenya and in particular, his decision in respect of the two thirds rule in the case of Marilyn Muthoni Kamuru & 2 others vs. the Attorney General & Another which held that the President had contravened the law by nominating, appointing and maintaining a Cabinet that did not meet the two thirds gender rule. This decision emboldened FIDA-Kenya in its push for equality for women in leadership positions in government. This decision has further reinforced our advocacy work in gender mainstreaming.
Indeed he will be dearly missed.
