FIDA-Kenya Hosts Nigerian Lawmakers on Benchmark Visit for Women’s Political Inclusion

FIDA-Kenya today welcomed a high-level delegation of 14 Nigerian legislators, led by the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dr. Julius O. Ihonvbere, MNI, OON. The lawmakers are in Kenya on a benchmarking mission to explore strategies for promoting women’s representation in political spaces. Their visit is part of an ongoing constitutional review process to introduce seat reservations for women in Nigeria’s legislative bodies.

During this meeting, FIDA-Kenya presented the strategies, achievements, and lessons learned in promoting women’s political participation during the “Vote a Dada” campaign and the advocacy for the implementation of the two-thirds gender principle.

In addition, this meeting provided a platform for knowledge exchange on inclusive governance. Both the Nigerian delegation and FIDA-Kenya agreed on the need for FIDA-Kenya to visit FIDA Nigeria for the purposes of sharing best practices because both organizations deal with similar issues affecting women in the two countries.

The FIDA-Kenya team was led by Advocates Miriam Bommet (Vice Chairperson), Angela Mwadumbo (Board Secretary ), Cynthia Mudaye (Board Member), Anne W. Ireri (Executive Director), Janet Anyango (Deputy Executive Director), and Virginia Kibunja (Program Officer – Policy and Advocacy).
