Nairobi, 11th January 2025 – Our attention has been drawn to an inaccurate online conversation regarding our work, and we would like to clarify as follows:
- 1. We, the Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya), remain committed to providing legal aid and psychosocial support services to all Kenyan women and girls, regardless of their socio-economic status. This commitment aligns with our vision of a society that respects and upholds women’s rights. For 40 years, we have been at the forefront of advancing women’s rights, including proactively tackling all forms of gender-based violence (GBV).
- 2. In 2024 alone, FIDA-Kenya served 10,505 clients (new and returning clients) who sought different services, including legal aid, psychosocial support, mediation, and self-representation throughout our country and women’s prisons.
- 3. FIDA-Kenya receives many cases through referrals, and it is mandatory for us to communicate with the client directly to take instructions and proceed with their consent while ensuring confidentiality. Indeed, the legal process requires the clients to meet us in order to gather the necessary information to enable us to proceed with their cases.
FIDA-Kenya remains ready and willing to provide legal aid and psychosocial support to all women and girls as soon as we receive direct instructions and consent from them or their legal guardians. Our doors are always open to all women and girls who need access to justice.
