PRESS STATEMENT: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN ALL ITS FORMS MUST CEASE
FIDA Kenya would like to condemn the rising cases of reported domestic violence. We are particularly concerned by the incident in Nyeri County where a husband was brutally attacked by his wife with a panga. While we seek to protect women’s rights, we strongly condemn any sort of violence – whether meted by a man or a woman.
FIDA Kenya has been lobbying for the enactment of a domestic violence law in Kenya since 1997 and there has been strong opposition to the same. We hope that the latest events in the country will convince parliamentarians on the need for the Family Protection Bill and that the passage of this law will be fast tracked by the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution and the National Assembly.
